Harto Malik, M.Hum. Second advisor Dr. Jolanda H.D. Pilongo, M.Pd This research is aimed to find out whether scientific approach can enhance the student mastery of vocabulary or not. The student of SMP Katolik Santa Maria was chosen to be population of this study and the sample was the 18 students of the eight grade 2017/2018 academic year. The using scientific approach was found out to significantly important to be applied in teaching vocabulary. Thus, it could find out that the scientific approach is a proper way or technique that could be used to enhance the students' vocabulary mastery. This research used pre-experimental design by applying one group pre-test and post-test. In collecting the data, the researcher used multiple choices as instrument given in pre-test and post-test. As the result of this research show that the 7.42 > 2.11, it was meant the hypothesis of this research that students' comprehension in vocabulary mastery can be enhanced by applying the scientific approach. It concluded that scientific approach can enhance students' vocabulary at the eighth grade students of SMP Katolik Santa Maria in the 2017/2018 academic year.
