Pre-operative care is the first step in perioperative period. The treatment process causes some psychological problem such as anxiety. Anxiety usually occurs because of maladaptive coping mechanism.
The purpose of this research is to find out the correlation between coping mechanisms and anxiety on pre-operative patient in surgical care room, Prof. Dr. Hi. AloeiSaboe Public Hospital, Gorontalo City. The type of this research was analytical survey with cross sectional study design. Population of this research was the patients who were treated in surgical care room, Prof. Dr. Hi. AloeiSaboe Public Hospital. They were going to do an operation in May 2013 with 44 samples which were chosen by applying purposive sampling technique.
The statistical analysis applied Pearson chi-square test. The result showed that there is a correlation between coping mechanisms (p=0.000) and anxiety on pre-operative patient in surgical care room, Prof. Dr. Hi. AloeiSaboe Public Hospital, Gorontalo city.
The related instituted especially the nurses in surgical care room, Prof. Dr. Hi. AloeiSaboe Public Hospital, Gorontalo city are expected to improve their service and effectiveness in providing nursing care to the pre-operative patient by giving education and health information.

Perawatan pre operasi merupakan tahap pertama dari perawatan perioperatif. Proses perawatan di rumah sakit, menimbulkan permasalahan psikologis bagi pasien yaitu kecemasan. Kecemasan biasanya terjadi karena faktor mekanisme koping yang maladaptif.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan mekanisme koping dengan kecemasan pada pasien pre operasi di Ruang perawatan Bedah RSUD Prof. Dr. Hi. Aloei Saboe Kota Gorontalo. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Survei Analitik dengan rancangan cross sectional study. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah pasien yang di rawat di Ruang Perawatan Bedah RSUD Prof. Dr. Hi. Aloei Saboe Kota Gorontalo yang telah direncanakan untuk melakukan operasi pada bulan Mei tahun 2013 dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 44 orang yang ditentukan dengan teknik Purposive Sampling.
Analisis statisik menggunakan uji pearson chi-square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada hubungan antara mekanisme koping (p=0.000) dengan kecemasan pada pasien pre operasi di Ruang perawatan Bedah RSUD Prof. Dr. Hi. Aloei Saboe Kota Gorontalo.
Diharapkan bagi instasi terkait khususnya bagi perawat di Ruang Perawatan Bedah RSUD Prof. Dr. Hi. Aloei Saboe Kota Gorontalo mengupayakan untuk lebih meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan keperawatan dan efektivitas dalam memberikan asuhan keperawatan pada pasien pre operasi dengan cara memberikan pendidikan dan informasi kesehatan.
