Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini yaitu "Apakah terdapat pengaruh penggunaan media Big Book terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan pada siswa kelas 1 SDN 77 Kota Tengah Kota Gorontalo?" tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media Big Book terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan pada siswa kelas 1 SDN 77 Kota Tengah Kota Gorontalo. Maka penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Pre Experimental Design dengan tipe The One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design.
Hasil penelitian dan pembahasan menunjukan bahwa media Big Book berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa, yang dilihat dari hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh thitung sebesar 15,703 sedangkan ttabel sebesar 2,068. Hal ini berarti thitung lebih besar dari ttabel. Dengan demikian Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima yang artinya terdapat pengaruh media Big Book terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa pada kelas 1 SDN 77 Kota Tengah Kota Gorontalo.

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of big book medium influences early reading skills of grade 1 students of Elementary School SDN 77 Kota Tengah, Gorontalo City. This pre-experimental research employed One-Group Pretest-Posttest design.
The results reveal that the use of the Big Book medium influences the students' early reading ability where the result of hypothesis testing obtains 15.703 and 2.068 for the score of tcount and ttable respectively. In other words, the value of tcount outnumbers ttable. This also indicates that H0 is accepted and therefore Ha is accepted, meaning that the big book medium contributes to the students' early reading ability in the research area.
