This study aimed to describe students ability in analyzing text type. Descriptive method was done in this research to describe students ability in analyzing text type. Then the data collected from students worksheets as the main instrument and questionnaire as supporting instrument. All finding were analyzed by qualitative research analyze that data is data reduction, data display, and discussion drawing verifications.
The result of this research is divided into three categories those are from students worksheets score, the correct number of text and questionnaire, result from the students worksheets score it is concluded that most students ability was in average to lower level. However some students can get a score above average, it was just a few of them. From students correct number of text, it is concluded that students were better in identifying narrative text and were lack in identifying analytical exposition text. From questionnaire result, most of students considered that the easiest text type were procedure text, narrative text and descriptive text, and the most difficult text were report text, spoof text and exposition text. And the reason that mad students could not recognize the text type and also in analyzing text type as because the teacher did not give a chance for students to be more active and creative in learning about text.
