Abstrak
Abstract Moh. Setia Novandi: 321 406 113, “Two Stay Two Stray Method In Mastering Students’ Speaking Ability conducted to the Students of Class VI A of English Departement Of Gorontalo State University in the Academic Year of 2010/2011)”. The aim of the this thesis was to know whether two stay two stray method could improve students’ speaking ability for the students of class A in English Department of Gorontalo Satae University or not, when it was applied in teaching speaking. The preliminary research showed that many students had problems to speak, and extend their idea in communication activity. Also at the first step, they were lack of vocabulary varians in delivering their idea. The research was done in English Departement Gorontalo State University from April- June 2012. The subject of the research was the students of class Aof English Department, Gorontalo State Universityas the experiment class and consisting of 17 students, and class C of English Departemen, Gorontalo State University as the control class and consisting 18 students. In collecting the data, the writer applied oral technique to gain the data from sample. The quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. It compared between the scores of pre-test (before implementing two stay two stray technique) and post-test (after implementing two stay two stray technique), while the qualitative data were analyzed by using constant comparative method which consisted of; comparing incidents applicable to each category, integrating categories into their properties, delimiting theory, and writing theory. The result of the research showed that: (1) two stay two stray method could improve students’ speaking ability, which covered: pronunciation, vocabullary, grammar, fluency, and comprehention. The improvement could also be seen from their results of post-test. The averages of the scores improved from cycle to cycle. The average score of pre-test was 69,71. Then, it increased to 89.05 in post-test (2) The students became more active and enthusiastic in learning process. They were brave to give their opinion using English language. Besides, the class became active and alive. Moreover, they could collaborate with the others well. In conclusion, two stay two stray method was able to improve students’ speaking ability. It stimulated students to be responsible and active. In short, it was recommended that the English teachers used two stay two stray method in teaching speaking subject.
