Abstrak
Cindra S. Hulu. 2015. "English Lecturers' Perception towards Implementation of Immersion Program in English Department". This research is aimed at gaining description about English lecturers' perception towards implementation of immersion program in English department, State University of Gorontalo. This research also describes obstacles and solution that are faced by lecturers in implementing the program. The result of this research could give comparing information in the decree of government's policy on the sustainability of this program for the future. This research is conducted in English Department that scoped all English lecturers as the population of this research. The subject of this research refers to the Lecturers that teach this program. The data collection in this research has been done by using interview and questionnaire techniques. Next, the result of this research is done by using qualitative analysis. The result of this research showed that the main challenge of this research is the use of English in teaching and learning process in the class. The students' ability in English which is low sometimes effect English lecturers frustrated. Sometimes the lecturers feel stressed when the students do not understand to the material. In this case, the lecturers give priority on students understanding to students mastery in English. It is not meant the lecturers ignore the English mastery, but the lecturers want students to understand the materials. However, the research study showed that although it is found many challenges in implementing of this program, the lecturers viewed that this program is very good for professional development, achievement and English capability. This research concludes that virtually the English lecturers have positive acts towards the implementation of this program. This research recommends the English deapartment should provide facilties for the implemantation of this program, and this research could give description for students that they should pay attention their understanding on the materials by being supported by their English competence so facilitating communication between them.
