In addition, the objective of this research is to find out whether the problem based learning can improve the students’ ability in writing argumentative paragraph or not.
The method used in this research is quantitative method. The design of this research is quasi experimental method. Population of this research is Students of SMA Negeri 1 of Gorontalo City in eleven grades in 2012/2013 academic year. As the sample of this research I take XI B as the sample of this research. The sample of this research is consisting of 20 students. In collecting the data of this research I used test form. The test form is essay test, it is the students writing of argumentative paragraph. The data of this research is analyzed quantitatively. In the other words, I use the statistical analysis.
The problem based learning can improve the students’ ability in writing argumentative paragraph. It is supported by the result of research that there are significant differences between result of pre test and post test. The hypothesis of this research is received. t testing show that the tcount bigger than tlist. The result of hypothesis verification show that tcount 62,7 ? tlist 2.10
