Abstrak
ABSTRACT HAMNIA. 2012. NIM: 321 407 037. Skripsi: “Improving Students’ Ability in Writing Descriptive Text by Using Freewriting Technique”. (The research conducted at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Telaga), Gorontalo. The objective of this research is to know whether the freewriting technique can significantly improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The subject of this research is class VIII TN2 of SMPN 2 Telaga, which consist of 20 students. In addition, the method which used in this research is pre-experimental and the designs of research were pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The instrument which used in collected the data is the test and it is analyzed by using t-test technique. The result of this research showed that the using of freewriting technique can improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The criteria used to verify the hypothesis is acceptable H_(0 )if t_count> t_(tab )is smaller than t_(tab )(t_count? t_(tab )). Based on the analysis of this research, I found that t_count is smaller than t_(tab )(-11.62? 2.022) with the level significance ? = 0.05 and df = (n_1+n_2-2). It means that the hypothesis is acceptable. In the other word, freewriting technique can improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. This technique can help the students in getting ideas or getting started to write. In addition, the students can generate, organize, and express their ideas in their own sentences that the students are able to freely and bravely write in English.
