Abstrak
An analyzing of Implicit Meaning on Evanescence Songs.This research is aimed to investigate the implicit meaning on Evanescence songs that is reflected through figurative languange that appeared on the songs.The method of this research is qualitative. The data is taken by reading and taking notes from three songs of Evanescence. The data is analyzed using threetier system units of Geofrey Leech, that consist of three steps namely predication, cluster, and feature. This system particulary used to identify the figurative languange on the songs. Further, the implicit meaning is analyzed through identification, classification, and interpretation the figurative languange. The results show that there are eight figurative languanges appeared on Evanescence songs. Those are, Hyperbole, Metaphore, Personification, Simile, Irony, Paradox, Synecdoche, and Appostrophe.
The implicit meaning in three songs generally talking about love and hope. ‘My Immortal’ talked about a fight to establish a love but the lovers are separated. It refers to someone who is unforgetable. ‘Sweet Sacrifice’ talked about a sacrifice to get a fredom from hurt and hope to get happiness at the end. And last is ‘Bring Me to Life’ told about someone whose life is numb and asked for spirit to raisehope and have normal life.
