Abstrak
A B S T R A C T MULIYANI ADAM. 2011. NIM: 321 407 072. Skripsi: “The Application of series picture media to improve students’ ability in writing narrative text”. (A research is conducted at the eighth class students of SMP Negeri 3 Suwawa in academic year 2011/2012). English Department, Faculty of Letters and Cultures, State University of Gorontalo. The main problem in this research is “can the application of series picture improve students’ ability in writing narrative text?” the objective in this research is using series picture to improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text. Population in this research was the second grade of SMPN 3 Suwawa, consists of 20 students. In collecting the data, the research used pre-test and post-test as the instruments. The result of normality analysis of post test the critical value of liliefors testing in the level significant ? = 0.05 with the simple (n) is 20 students. Furthermore, the t_(tabel )is 0.190 (see appendix 11). So, t_count is 0, 3668. From this description can be concluded that the data of post-test was normal. The students’ writing ability in writing narrative text in pre-test is 70 % or can be categorized the students writing ability in writing narrative text into “low category”. From 20 students is the sample, the lowest range score, 35-40 is 2 of 20 students or 10%. In the range score 41-46 there were 14 of 20 students or 70%. Besides that, there were 47-52 of 20 students or 10% in this range score. Also, in the highest score 53-58, there were 2 of 20 students or 10% could find best scores in pre-test. In post test, the lowest score 63-69 there were 14 of 20 students or 70% from the total students. In the range score 70-77 there were 4 of 20 students or 20% from the total students in this range score. Also, the highest score 78-81 there was 2 of 20 students or 5%. From this result, the research concludes that the students’ ability in writing narrative text can be improved by using series picture. Key words: Writing, Narrative Text, and Fairy tale
