Abstrak
The objectives of this research are to describe the student’s difficulties and factors that made students difficulties in using mechanics in writing informal letter.
The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method in order to describe the students’ difficulties in using mechanic in writing informal letter. The sample participants of this research are the students of SMP Negeri 3 of Gorontalo City in VIII-D that consists of 25 students. The data of this research were collected by using a test, interview and documentation. The kind of test is essay test. In this test, I asked the students to write the informal letter namely family letter.
The result of research, first, some students’ difficulties in writing informal letter was in punctuation aspect, it is supported by the result of research that the students’ lowest score was 259. Second, the students’ difficulties in writing informal letter were in sentence aspect, it is supported by the result of research that the students score was 168. Third, the students’ difficulties in writing informal letter were in paragraph aspect, it is supported by the result of research that the students’ score was 182. Fourth, the students’ difficulties in writing informal letter were in spelling aspect, it is supported by the result of research that the students’ score was 219. Based on the result of interview, as whole it can be conclude that the students get difficulties in using mechanic especially in putting punctuation and writing sentence, the students difficult to separate the sentence by using comma or full stop, this statement supported by the result of interview that most of the students answer that they did not know the rules of putting punctuation, and the rules of writing sentence. In addition, the students’ difficulties in writing paragraph and English spelling. It is because some students not focus to write a paragraph as complete paragraph even they confused to write one sentence and did not know the position of the sentence. Some factors makes the students difficult to write that are have not a dictionary and the limited time.
