Abstrak
Abstract Yuningsih Karim. 2014. "Improving students' ability in writing descriptive paragraph by using free writing technique". (A Research conducted at the students' of class VIII-4 SMP Negeri 8 Gorontalo 2013/2014 academic years). Skripsi, English Department, Faculty of letters and Culture, Gorontalo State University. 2014. This research is advised by Dr. Kartin Lihawa, M.Pd as the first advisor and Indri wirahmi Bay, S.Pd,. MA as the second advisor.This research conducted based on the problem statement "can free writing improve the students' ability in writing descriptive paragraph?". The objective of this research is to find out whether the free writing technique can improve the students' ability in writing descriptive or not. The students' ability in writing paragraph limited on the students' ability in writing descriptive paragraph.The method used in this research is quasi experimental method. The population of this research is all the students of SMP 8 Gorontalo City in grade eight in 2013/2014 academic year that consist of 230 students. The sample of this research is the students in second grade especially VIII-A that consist of 24 students. In collecting the data, I used the test, the kinds of test is essay test. The data of this research is analyzed quantitatively, I use the statistical analysisThe hypothesis of this research is received. Because of t testing shows that tcount 27, 99 ≥ tlist 2.07. It means that, the free writing technique can improve the students' ability in writing descriptive paragraph. The test used in pre test and post test data was normally distributed. The critical of liliefors testing is in the level significance = 0.05 is 0.190. The value taken from the sample (n) which is 24 = 0.0388. In normality analysis of pre test Lcount -0,1211, it means that Lcount (-0,1211) ≤ Llist (0.0388), while in analysis of post test data Lcount (0,0288) ≤ Llist (0.0388).
