Abstrak
Fransisca Amelia Paputungan (2013): “A Study On Spatial Deictic Expression In The Movie The Lord Of The Ring: The Return Of The King By Peter Jackson”.
This research was conducted by using qualitative method. It was aimed to find out the types of spatial deixis, the references, and the type of spatial deixis which mostly occur in the movie The Lord of The Ring: The Return of The King directed by Peter Jackson. There were several steps in collecting the data, namely watching the movie, identifying, taking note, and classifying. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed and explained the data by using Yule’s theory and counted the data to find out the type of spatial deixis which mostly occur in this movie. Based on the analysis of the data, there were three types of spatial deixis in the movie The Lord of The Rings, namely proximal deixis, distal deixis, and projected deixis. The reference of each type was different based on the context of the utterance. Furthermore, type of spatial deixis that mostly occur in the movie the Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King was proximal deixis. Therefore, the researcher could conclude that interpreting the references of the spatial deictic expressions depended on the speaker’s perspective psychologically and physically.
