ABSTRACT
NURSYAH PUTRIANA KAABA, (2012) : Metaphor Analysis in Mike Newells Movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research aimed to inteprets the meaning of metaphor utterences in the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The approach uses in this research is Discourse Analysis and Semantics Analysis that stand on linguistics theory. The steps of collecting the data are watching the whole movie, then identifying the metaphor utterences in the movie dialogue by use Componential Analysis and making some notes of data finding based on the appereance in the movie. Next, the steps of analyzing the data are, finding literal meaning, finding some notion based on the context of data and finally intepreting the data based on Lakoff’s theory of metaphor and consider to the Discourse Analysis.
Based on analysis of the data, there are 25 metaphor utterences in the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. All of those utterences are influenced by the context, setting and the basic culture of the movie. Also, those metaphor utterences has been classified into 12 forms consider to the theme of each metaphor utterence.
