Abstrak
Abstract
The objective of this research is to find out and to give information about students' difficulties in reading narrative text. The method of this research is qualitative method. The technique of collecting the data is using 25 multiple choice questions as the instrument which have correlation with generic structure of narrative text. It is to know students' difficulties in reading narrative text and also support with interview from the students to add information about the students' difficulties in reading narrative text. The data are analyzed by using qualitative analysis. The instrument of this research is reading text and the way of collecting data is the multiple choices questions and interview to add information about the causes of the students' difficulties in reading narrative text. For the multiple choice questions, there are ten questions for orientation, five questions for complication, five question for resolution and five questions for re-orientation for the total of five narrative stories. The result of this research shows that the students' difficulties in reading narrative text are categorized into low level. It is proved by the result of statistical analysis that the students' high score is 650 which find from the result multiplied by the total of 26 students and the number of questions are 25, the total of the students incorrect answer or difficulties is 203 which find from the result each of students' difficulties which consists of generic structure of narrative text. So, the result of the students' difficulties in reading narrative text is 31.23%. It is shows the students incorrect answer divided by the students high score, the percentage X= 203/650 x 100% = 31.23%. If the students' incorrect answer is 31.23%, it is categorized that their difficulties in reading narrative text is "low". It means that, the level of students' difficulties in reading narrative text is low.
