Abstrak

ABSTRACT Sri Sartika Lontang, 2012. Skripsi. “The Analysis of Illocutionary Functions in “Brothers” A Movie by Jim Sheridan”. The aim of this research, I want to find out the utterances of actors/actress that related to illocutionary functions. The source of data in this research is a movie entitled “Brothers”. The method of this research is qualitative method which used in describing the analysis of the utterances. The data was collected by watching the movie and make a transcription about the movie. Then, in analyzing the data, I used several steps such us identifying, classifying, analysis, and interpretation. After identifying the utterances, I have found 114 utterances that indicate illocutionary functions. I classifying and analyzing the utterances based on four functions of illocutionary acts; competitive, convivial, collaborative and conflictive. Then, I interpret the utterances by using speech situation in order to make me easier in interpret. As a result, conflictive utterances are the most used in “Brother” movie.
