Abstrak
ABSTRACT
Veranika Pakaya. 2014. Assessing Students' Writing ability by Using Portfolio. The objective of the research is to describe the students' writing ability by using portfolio assessment. This research is limited to the students' writing ability by using portfolio assessment, the kinds of writing is limited on descriptive text, narrative text, recount text and report text. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative method. As the sample of this research I the students of SMP 8 Gorontalo City especially VIII-A which consists of 30 students but this research focused on 21 students. In collecting the data of this research, I collect the students writing portfolio as the data of this research. The data is all the students' writing paper as long the research time, the students' worksheet collected consists of narrative text, descriptive text, recount text, report text. This analysis data is used in order to get the data and describing the students writing achievement by using portfolio. The data of this research analyzed descriptively. Based on the result of assessing the students' portfolios, it can be conclude that the students' writing ability is still low with the score 1357 and categorized in "enough" with the percentage 53,85%. As whole the students' score in narrative text is 422 with the percentage 66,98%, the students' score in descriptive text is 408 with the percentage 64,76%, the students score in recount text is 284 with the percentage 45,08%, the students' score in the report text is 243 with the percentage 38,57%.
