(a research conducted at VII2 2012/2013 academic year of SMP Negeri 1 Boliyohuto)
This research was conducted toward students’ of class VII2 2012/2013 academic year in SMP Negeri 1 Boliyohuto where consist of 28 students. The method of this research was quantitative method and the design of this research was one group experimental design by applying pre-test, treatment and post-test design. The problems of this research wascan pair work strategy raise the students’ ability in speaking. The objective of this research was to find out whether pair work strategy can raise the students’ ability in speaking or not. The data was collected by using oral test where the design of this research was pre-test, treatment and post-test design. Finally, the result of the analysis showed that using pair work strategy canraisethe students’ ability in speaking. In verifying the hypothesis of this research used the criterion H0would be received if tcount?tlistin the level of significance ?= 0,05. . If the result of tcount was not based on the criterion above, it means that H1 is accepted that is tcount?tlist. It is proved by the value of tcount = 11,00699 in the level of significance ?= 0,05. After doing the calculation of the data, it was found that tlist= 2,052. The result of this research found that pair work strategy can raise the students’ ability in speaking
