ABSTRACT
Nur Muliani. NIM: 321409098. 2013. Skripsi entitled “The Influence of Concept Sentence Technique toward the Students’ Achievement in Writing Narrative Text” (an experiment research to eighth grade of SMP N 1 Kabila in the academic year of 2012/2013). English Department, Letter and Culture Faculty, State University of Gorontalo.
The objective of this research is to know the influence of concept sentence technique toward the students’ achievement in writing narrative text. To achieve the objectives of the research, experimental quantitative research was conducted. The experiment was held through one group pre-test post-test design (pre-experiment). The population of the research was the Eighth Year Students of SMP. N 1 Kabila, Gorontalo. The total number of sample in this research was 30 students. The data were collected through writing narrative test.
In solving the problems, this research carried out an experimental study using statistical method called t-test. The data was collected from pre-test and post-test. The result of the research shows that students were taught using concept sentence technique had better achievement in post-test than in pre-test. The average score of the pre-test was 39.33 and the average score in post-test was 59.66. It has improvement 20.34 or 67.8%. The pre-test and post-test score then were calculated to get the t-test to know whether there was significant influence of concept sentence technique. If t-test is higher than t table means that there is influence of concept sentence technique. As the result, the t-test was 15.07 and t-table was 2.045. Then t test and t-table were compared. The data shows that t-test was higher than t-table. It means that there was significant difference from pre-test to post-test.
From the data above, it can be concluded that the students have higher achievement after they were taught by concept sentence technique. The data proves that it is effective to use concept sentence technique in improving students’ writing ability.
Key words: writing, narrative text and concept sentence technique.
