Abstrak

ABSTRACT Hemas Lintang Pertiwi(2016):Descriptive Study On students' ability in pronouncing diphthong sound (a study conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Batudaa in 2014/2015 academic year), English department, Faculty of Letter and Culture, State University of Gorontalo. First advisor is Dra. Elsje L. Sambouw, M. Hum and second advisor is Indri Wirahmi Bay, S.pd, M.A The study aims to describe the ability of second grade student at SMK 1 Negeri Batudaa. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The participants are students of second grade at SMK Negeri 1 Batudaa. The researcher give a list of word, the students read one by one, and the researcher record. The researcher used distinctive features to compare student' pronunciations to determine their ability. In the result of finding, showed that majority of the student at the second grade of SMKN 1 Batudaa got incorrect pronunciation of diphthong /e/, /a/,and /a/ sound.
