Abstrak
In this research, the researcher focuses on the analysis of figurative language in William Shakespeare sonnet. They are sonnet 18, 130, and 147. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative analytic method. Researcher analyses the structure by reading the sonnet carefully and giving the attention for each line that contains figurative languages and imageries.
The result of this research shows that William Shakespeare sonnet uses figurative language and imagery in his sonnet. There are many kinds of figurative language in the sonnet. In the sonnet 18, William Shakespeare uses three metaphor, four personification, 1 allegory as figurative language and two kinds imagery, kinesthetic imagery and visual imagery. In sonnet 130, Shakespeare uses one simile, one litotes, one metaphor, and one personification, as figurative language in this sonnet and also uses eight imagery such as four visual imagery, two olfactory imagery, one auditory imagery and one kinesthetic imagery. Finally, in sonnet 147 William Shakespeare uses some of figurative language, they are : two simile, one metaphor, one litotes and one personification. And one imagery.
