Anita S. Moha. 2013. Conversational Implicature in “From Paris With Love” Movie Directed By Pierre Morel (Pragmatic Study).
This research investigates conversational implicature uttered by the main characters in the action film ‘From Paris With Love’. It is used Conversational Analysis (CA) to get the meaning of utterance considering the context, situation and some background knowledge. This research used qualitative descriptive method which is aimed to describe the data. Grice theory of conversational implicature (CI) and characteristic of both types; Generalized Conversational Implicature (GCI) and Particularized Conversational Implicature (PCI) of CI are utilized. The result of this research shows that there are twenty-two (22) utterances that contain conversational implicature. It consists of nine (9) utterances are apply Generalized Conversational Implicature (GCI) and thirteen (13) utterances are apply Particular Conversational Implicature (PCI). Moreover, by considering the context, this research reveals the meaning of conversational implicature into: directive, assure, expectative, expressive, request, order/command, prohibition, opposite meaning and satirical. Therefore, it can be conclude that PCI is mostly uttered by the main characters of FPWL movie.
