Abstrak

Skripsi: “Improving students’ ability to generate ideas in writing analytical exposition text by using brainstorming technique.” (A quasi experimental research conducted in SMA Negeri 2 Limboto class XI IPA2 and XI IPA3). The objective of this research is to know whether brainstorming technique can improve students’ ability to generate ideas in writing analytical exposition text or not. This research used nonequivalent control group design. The populations are second grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Limboto 2012/2013 academic year and the samples are XI IA2 as control group and XI IA3 as experimental group chosen purposively. Criteria of rejecting H_0 is t_count > t_listwith ? is 0.05. The result of the data shows that t_count is 2.68 and t_list is 2.005. Because ?t_count > t_list or H?_0 is rejected, the hypothesis which states that brainstorming technique can improve students’ ability to generate ides in writing analytical exposition text is accepted. It is hoped that English teachers would use appropriate technique in teaching writing skills. The further researchers are also expected to conduct research of applying brainstorming technique in other genres of text, such as discussion and hortatory exposition text and other techniques which does not only improve students’ ability to generate ideas, but also to organize ideas in writing skills.
