Abstrak
Abstract
Thasrif Bambang Kadir (2016): "Simile in Maya Angelou's Poem" is a research of poems written by woman writer Maya Angelou that published on 1994 in America. This research would be analyzed a simile based on structural approach. This research guided by Dr. Hi. Harto Malik, M.Hum and Adriansyah A. Katili, SS, M.Pd.
A simile is a word that compares words in sentences. The poems of Maya Angelou was a portrait of simile analysis that storied all her past experience during getting oppression in her life. Therefore, the target of this research was to describe simile reflected in Maya Angelou's poems. The method would be used in this research were library research because all the source was focused on the poems, in addition descriptive method also used to describe simile on Maya Angelou's poems.
The technique of collecting data was by reading the poems, and finally choosing ten poems of Maya Angelou as the object of research. They had been chosen by considering the great quantities of simile emerge in the poems. Then, the research analysis had been analyzed based on structural analysis by using Leech's and Fislov's theories. It has been separated by separating tenor, vehicle, simile marker, and grounding based on the poems.
The result of this research was there were four simile categories that have been found in the poems. They are like, as, as...as, and as if. All of them has been spread into the poems. Finally, the result of discussion hopefully could increase insight assessment to the reader the concept of simile and the portrait of Maya Angalou's life through her poems.
