Abstrak
Rifka Van Gobel (2015): "Teaching Reading Problems Faced By The Teachers At SMAN 4 Gorotalo City". English department, Faculty of Letter and Culture, Gorontalo State University. First advisor Dr. Hj. Rasuna Thalib M.Hum and second advisor Helena Badu S.Pd., M.Pd. The aim of this study aims is investigates teachers' problems in teaching reading. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The data of this research were collected from the teachers at SMAN 4 Gorontalo City 2014/2015. There were three instruments which have been used to collect the data, they were observation, interview and document. The result of this study can be concluded that there are ten problems in teaching reading problems faced by the teachers. The problems related to the essential of teaching reading skill. They are (a) the content, methods and structures of the selected lesson were not appropriate for the pupil in intended learning, (b) materials, resources and aids were not well prepared and checked in good time, (c) all planning decision cannot take the account of the pupils and the context, (d) the teacher's manner was not confident, relaxed, self-assured, purposeful, and not generating the interest in the lesson, (e) the teacher's instructions and explanations were not clearly matched to pupils' needs, (f) the teacher's questions including a variety of types and not range and were not distributed widely, (g) pupils were not actively involved in the lesson and were not give opportunities to organize their own work, (h) the teacher does not show respect and not encouragement for pupils' ideas, contribution and cannot foster their development (i) the work undertaken by the pupils was not well matched to their needs, and (j) materials, resources and aids were not used to good effect.
