Abstrak
Abstract Molantong, Miranti. 2014. Number Head Together Strategy for Teaching Narrative Reading Text at Faculty of Letter and Culture, State university of Gorontalo. Graduate Program in English Department of State university of Gorontalo. This research attempts to find out student ability in Reading comprehension through Number Head Together Strategy (NHT), whether it increased or not. It is aim to find the students result of the test after giving a treatment or a learning by using NHT Strategy. NHT is a cooperative strategy that offers an alternative to the competitive approach of whole-class question-answer, in which the teacher asks a question and then calls on one of the students with a raised hand Kagan in Coffey (2014, p.1). There were 17 samples of student in class X IIS3, SMA N 1 Suwawa in this research and the data analyzed by using quantitative experimental method. It was using pre-experiment with one treatment group. The instrument of the data were tests which given before and after treatment, it was Pre-test and Post-test. The pre-test was conduct to find out their score before the treatment, and the post-test conduct to find out their scores after the treatment. This research used normality test and t-test in analyzing the data. Based on the findings data, students pre-test result was still low, it is seem from the mean score value was 10,9. But, after the treatment used this strategy, students' score increased to the mean value 16. It also proved by using statistical analysis. The hypothesis value of t-test is tcount is 9.78. It is can be accepted if the value of tcount â t list . the value of t list is 2.13. Hence, the hypothesis testing was accepted because t count â t list or 9.78 â 2.13, in the level significance = 0,05, and the tdistribution is 0,975. Thus, the result of Tcount is accepted because tcount â tlist . So, it can be concluded that, Number head together strategy can raise the students' reading comprehension ability. This situation and the result is approproated to Kagan theory in Richard and Renandya (2002, p. 52-53) that NHT strategy encourages succesful group functioning because all members need to know and be ready to explain their group answer. Thus, the researcher agrees that the used of this strategy can increase students' Reading Comprehension ability.
