Yuliantika. 2015. Error Analysis of Natural Equivalent in Translating English Short Story into Indonesian (A research conducted at the Fifth Semester Students of English Department, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo).
This research is about error analysis of natural equivalent in translating English short story into Indonesian. The purpose of this research is to identify, describe, explain and evaluate the kinds of natural equivalent error made by the fifth semester students of English Department in translating English short story into Indonesian. This research is conducted by error analysis design. The participants of this research are the fifth semester students of English Department which consist of 18 students who are selected by using purposive sampling. The findings of this research show that there are 130 numbers of natural equivalent error which are distributed from the three categories of natural equivalent problem namely lexical problem, syntactic problem and cultural problem. In the category of lexical problem, there are 11 numbers of error in meaning distribution and 33 numbers of error in lexical transfer of individual words. In the category of syntactic problems, there are 17 numbers of error in personal pronoun and 5 numbers of error in tenses. In the category of cultural problems, there are 13 numbers of error in culture-specific word and 51 numbers of error in culture-specific idiom/ proverb. From this output, it can be seen that lexical transfer of individual words and culture-specific word are the dominant subcategories of error that are made by the students in translating English short story into Indonesian.
