The purpose of this study is to investigate the distinction of translation text through students' cognitive process in translating activity. Two students of English department were chosen based on purposive sampling method as the research participants. Two texts entitled Understanding United States and Canadian Attitudes toward Work and Kebiasaan Bisa Menjadi Budaya were given to the participants to be translated. Descriptive qualitative method was used as the research methodology. Think-Aloud Protocols (TAPS) and interview were used to collect the data. The data show regarding the product texts, verbalization transcription during the process of translation, and responses transcription during the interview revealed that the participants derived the proper words to be put in the target text differently. The cognitive processes which involve cognition, memory retention, divergent production, convergent production, and evaluation play a very important role to differ the word choices of both participants.
