The main purpose of this study was to find out the factors affecting students' motivation in learning English. This study was designed by using quantitative method. The participants of this study are the students of class VIII-1 and VIII-2 at SMP Negeri 1 Biau. The technique of collecting the data is questionnaire. Thus, fourty students are chosen to answer the questions of the questionnaire to find out the factors affecting students' motivation in learning English. The techniques of analyzing the data are started from identifying the data from questionnaire, describing it by using percentage and concluding the data. The finding of this study showed that the factors affecting students' motivation in learning English can be categorized into intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Most of students' motivation refers into average. It could be seen on the result of questionnaire. The dominant factors affecting students motivation in learning English is extrinsic motivation, that got 64,1% while intrinsic motivation has 47,1%. In extrinsic motivation students are happy when teacher used media or game to teach them; also students were happy when the teacher gave them a reward when they can answer the question. Moreover, students got motivation from their teacher because their teacher always help, and guide them in they got a problem in learning process. In conclusion, extrinsic factors dominate the students' motivation in learning English.
