Code Switching in "Perahu Kertas" Movie

Abstract
This research aims to know how the application of Hoffman theory about types of switching which is divided into emblematic/tag switching, inter-setential switching and establish continuity with previous speaker, and also the reason for bilingualism switch their languages. This theory is used to analyze the types of switching in conversation between characters and also the reason the character switch the language from Bahasa Indonesia to English or English to Bahasa Indonesia. The data is taken from conversation in "Perahu Kertas" movie part 1 and part 2, and transcribe into corpus. Method of this research is qualitative method. The technique of analyzing data is descriptive analysis. The finding that have been transcribe into corpuses will be described and discussed to find the result of the research. The result of this research find out that from twenty six corpuses contain with forty two switching utterances. There are thirteen utterances apply emblematic/tag switching, twenty two utterances apply inter-setential switching and seven utterances apply establish continuity with previous speaker. It also found characters switch their language mostly to clarify their speech content to the interlocutor. It also found a new reason of switching occurrence that is not provided by Hoffman and Saville. I hope this research can be reference for the next researcher.
