Otoluwa, M.Hum and Maghvirah El Walidayni Kau, S.Pd., M.Pd The aim of this research is to find out whether SAVI method can improve significantly students' skill in using simple past tense or not. The subject of this research is the eleventh grade social program 1 of SMA Negeri 1 Tapa that consists of 27 students. The method of this research is the quantitative experimental method by using pre test, treatment, and post test. In collecting the data of this research, the researcher used an objective test which consists of 34 items and using narrative text as a media to identify simple past tense. It can be seen that the mean of the pre test is bigger than the post test. The mean of pre test is 49. 55, and the mean of post test is 82. In addition, the hypothesis was tested by using t-test formula. The criteria used to verify the hypothesis was reject Ho if tcount is less than tlist (tcount < tlist). In this case the researcher found that the tcount is bigger than the tlist (12 > 2.056) with the level of significance = 0.05 and D = (n-1) = 26. Based on the result of the data analysis the hypothesis of this research is accepted. It can be concluded that SAVI method can improve students' ability in using the simple past tense.
