The objective of this research is to find out whether reading English newspaper can effect the students' vocabulary. The population of this research was the whole of students at the eleventh grade at SMAN 1 Bonepantai that consist of 126 students. This research used purposive sampling technique in getting the sample namely 14 students at the eleventh grade of language class. The method of this research was quasy experimental design by taking pre - test and post - test design. Meanwhile, in collecting the data, the researcher used the multiple choices test as the instrument of this research and the t - test was used in analyzing the data. The result of this research proved that reading English newspaper can effect significantly the students' vocabulary shown by the statistical analysis that the tcount is larger than the tlist. The value of the tcount is 3,14 and the tlist was 2,16. It can be formulated as 3,14 > 2,16 with the degree of freedom = (n - 1) = (14 - 1)= 13 at the level significance = 0,05. It means that the hypothesis of this research is acceptable. It can be seen that the percentage of pre - test is 29,1% and in post - test is about 32,8%. It means that the percentage between pre - test and post - test namely 3,7%. Thereby, by reading English newspaper can effect significantly the students' vocabulary in learning process.
