The present study investigates the students difficulties in composing a comic strips in English as the Medium of instruction. This study applied by using rubric of writing ability adopted by Heaton theory. Moreover, the purpose of this research is aim to find out the students difficulties and dominant errors in writing course. It is conducting by using a descriptive quantitative method as the design of this research. To collect the data, an test was used to observe and determine the students difficulties in writing. futhermore, this research was conducted at SMP Negeri 9 Kota Gorontalo. There were 17 students as the sample involving in this research. Importantly, the result of research hasshown that the students were still difficult to write in English. It can be seen in some aspect of writing such as grammar (44%), vocabulary (50%), mechanic (54%) and form/organization (52%). Fron those 17 students, it can be explained that no one who can be categorized into a good and bad capacity. However, three students was categorized into enough capacity and fourteen students was categorized less capacity. Therefore, by the 17 students has difficulties and make dominant errors in aspects of writing is grammar. Consequently, they could wiriting in correctly because they had less practice and how used grammar in writing.
