The objective of this research is to find the appropriate students' strategies in translating idioms in the narrative text, and the methods that applied by the students in translating the idioms should be recognized in order to find out the strategy that can produce the appropriate equivalent in the target language text. The subject was English department students at eighth semesters that consist of 6 students who already learned and passed the translation, semantic and pragmatic subjects. The method was qualitative research. In analyzing the data, the researcher used some steps that consists of checking, identifying, categorizing, comparing and the last step was making a conclusion to the appropriate translation method that students should apply in translating idioms in the narrative text based on the idiom types and what the accurate strategy that should use in translating idioms is. The result of this research proved that the idiomatic translation is a method that should apply in translating idioms in narrative text. Further, the students are good in semantic analysis to the idioms implication, and the students were tending to produce correct idioms meanings by paraphrase using unrelated word strategy.
