Abstrak
ABSTRACK Nurmaya (2017). Analysis of Students' Anxiety in Learning English as a Foreign Language. English Department, Faculty of Letter and Culture. Gorontalo State University. First advisor Indri wirahmi Bay, S,Pd. M,Pd and second advisor Nurlaila Husain, S.S. M.Pd. This study aims to investigate the student's anxiety in English learning classroom. Qualitative method was applied by doing questionnaire and interview in order to know students' anxiety in English class. This research took place in SMK Negeri 1 Suwawa, BoneBolango Regency. The participantsof this research are the second grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Suwawa. The result shows there were three kinds of anxiety experienced by students of SMK Negeri 1 Suwawa in learning English. They are communication apprehension, test anxiety, and fear of negative evaluation. Communication apprehension happened because the students do not have self confidence in expressing their knowledge, they do not have preparation and some of them do not have ability in English. Test anxiety happened because the students felt pressure to face the test or examination, because they were afraid to get bad score in the test that would cause them not pass the English lesson. The last one is fear of negative evaluation that happened because the students felt shy to show their ability, they were afraid of being laughed by the other students. They always thought that the others have better knowledge that them so this problem blocked them to show their performances. Keyword: Anxiety, English learning
