Mario Nurkamiden. 2018. Meaning Shift on Netizens' Status in Facebook and Instagram.
This research aimed at discovering the types of semantic change occurred on user post and caption in Facebook and Instagram. The researcher focuses on the users' post update in Facebook as well as the caption of Instagram photo.
Fromkin and Rodman (1983, p. 296), there are three courses in which a lexical thing may change semantically; its significance may wind up plainly more extensive, its importance may move toward becoming smaller, and its importance may move. It can be presumed that the importance of a word might be changed or moved as it gets new sense.
This research was qualitative research. This research method is arranged based on the problem analyzed and the main purpose of the research. The data of the research will be collected from status post of the Facebook and Instagram user. Data is one words, phrases, sentences of status post that certain the possibility of meaning shift. The status post will include caption of picture and individual post. The technique analysis of data will be qualitative analysis. There will be one by presenting and describe the meaning shift found in Facebook and Instagram post.
The conclusion of this research that the types of semantic change used in the instagram and facebook was widening. Generally, the using of widening found in this research, the user of facebook and istagram specifically didn't understand the actual meaning of the words and they only use the words as the term, the famous terms that usually used by many user or instagram. The use of widening by facebook and instagram user in order to express their feeling and condition that they faced at the day. In fact, the use of word in their status was not refers to the rules or the rule and principle of the words or sentence itself. It can be conclude that, the user of facebook and instagram didn't know that their status or caption have made a semantic change namely widening. They only use the words in order to express their feeling and not have the other purpose.
