Afdiana. 321 411 058. An Analysis of Code-Switching on the Conversation among the Teacher and Students in Classroom (Research Conducted in SMA N 1 Kota Gorontalo at Class of X MIA1 ). This research aims to know the types of code-switching by Popplack's theory namely tag switching, inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching; and reason of doing code-switching. It was qualitative research conducted at SMA N 1 Kota Gorontalo. The data were collected by recording the conversation of 1 English teacher and 37 students in English classroom and interview. The result showed that there were 58 code-switching occurred. There were 50 switching utterances done by the English teacher; divided into 19 tag switching, 16 inter-sentential switching, and 15 intra-sentential switching. 8 switching utterances are done by the students; consisted of 7 tag switching and 1 intra-sentential switching. Finally, the lack of vocabulary is concluded as the main reason of code-switching.
