Abstrak
ABSTRACT Tri UtamiPurnama (2017). Improving Students' Writing Simple Past Tense by Using Diary. English Department, Faculty of Letter and Culture. UniversitasNegeriGorontalo. Advisors: Elsje L Sambouw.M.Hum and RahmawatiMamu, S.Pd. M.Pd The current research aims at knowing whether the implementation of diary can improve students' ability in writing or not. This research conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Telaga Biru. The samples of students' writing came from 19 students which are consists of 5 males and 14 females. The research applied pre-experimental which is analyzed quantitatively through pre-test and post-test. The students took a writing test. This aimed to evaluate the students' writing ability. The result got that the score in the post-test is higher than the pre-test, where the total of pre-test is 60.72 while the score of post-test is 117.04. The average score of students' writing before give the treatment is 3.19 and the average score of students' writing after give the treatment is 6.16. It was prove at the result of the hypothesis tcount>ttable or 15.57 > 2.101. Keywords: Writing, Simple Past tense, Diary.
