This study takes a social phenomenon of politeness as the main topic. The aim of this study is explore what strategies politeness used in Jack the giant slayer movie. This study is a qualitative research which focuses on analyzed the utterances of the characters taken from the script of Jack the giant slayer movie and the writer also adopted politeness strategy's theory proposed by Brown & Levinson (1986). Besides, this study analyzed factors that influence the choice of politeness strategy contains status, closeness and formality. As the result, this study reveals the characters in movie performs all kinds of politeness strategies in conversation, they are positive politeness strategy, negative politeness strategy, bald-on record strategy, and off-record strategy. There are 15 conversations with 28 utterances contains politeness strategy, 8 utterances categorized into bald on record, 8 utterances categorized into positive politeness, 10 utterances into negative politeness and 2 utterances categorized into off record strategy. The researcher also found, the characters in this movie used politeness strategy related with social relationship that is status, social distance and formality. Finally, the researcher concludes that the main purpose politeness strategy used in this movie to make the relationship among the characters being good and close. Although some characters in this movie have higher status than other but they show respect each other. Then, politeness language can change because of power and dominance.
