This research is aimed to find out the students' characteristics in learning English. In considering the students as the object of learning process, it is proper to know and understand that students must need strategy and some characteristics for helping them to mastering the language. Thus, it could find out that characteristics of students to be applied in teaching-learning process. This study was done by applying qualitative method especially descriptive method. The students of Mathematic department were chosen to be a site of this research and the participant was 30 students in class A from fourth semester. Moreover, to find out that students' characteristics in learning English, this research used questionnaire. After the analysis the data, the researcher found that there are the characteristics of students namely, willing to accurate guesser, willing to make mistakes, try to communicate even without language, look for pattern in the language, practice whenever possible, analyse their own speech, pay attention to their own standards, enjoy the grammar, and have good self-image and self-confident. Based on the result, there are the characteristic that most conspicuously is statement number 4, that indicate 66,66 % in option sometimes from characteristics number three "good learners try to communicate even without language". Each characteristic has different percentage, but it is not very significant.
