Abstrak
Paraphrasing becomes a common issue in students' academic writing. Inappropriate paraphrase has already been one of problems in doing paraphrasing. This research examines the types of students' inappropriate paraphrase in English Education Department, Letters and Culture Faculty, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Inappropriate paraphrase is divided into two types, they are; Superficial changing most of the words and Unchanged Sentence Structure. Through this research, the finding shows that both of types occur in students' paraphrase, and unchanged sentence structure is the type that most displayed. By using descriptive qualitative analysis, this research investigates the types by combining documentation and questionnaire as the technique of collecting data. Documentation is the way to examine students paraphrase, furthermore, questionnaire investigates the reasons why students still produce inappropriate paraphrase itself.
