This research identifies the diction used by one of sport commentators, John Helm, in commenting the badminton mixed doubles match of Asian Games 2014. This research discovers the types of diction used by John Helm through qualitative methods. There are 57 sentences uttered by John Helm in commenting the match that taken as the data. Those data were obtained by using documentation technique through the use of audio visual tool, that was a video of Badminton Mixed Doubles Match of Asian Games 2014 between Korean pair and Indonesian pair. The results shows that there are nine types of diction that found in Helm's sentences in commenting the Badminton Mixed Doubles Match of Asian Games 2014. Those are 8 denotative dictions, 8 connotative dictions, 10 abstract dictions, 7 concrete dictions, 4 general dictions, 3 specific dictions, 6 popular dictions, 8 jargons, and 3 slangs. This work increases our understanding of types of diction, particularly in sport commentary. It is essential for prospective researchers to develop their perception toward diction as their further informations in conducting similar research.
