Abstrak
ABSTRACT

Humola. 321 413 017, "An Analysis of Studentsâ Problems in Pronouncing English words (A Study Conducted at The Eight Grade Students of SMP N 2 Tilong Kabila), English Education Study Program, Faculty of Letter and Culture, State University of Gorontalo. It is supervised by (spv 1) and (spv 2).
This research aimed to find out studentsâ difficulties in pronouncing English consonants sounds at second grade of SMP N 2 Tilongkabila regency. It employed a descriptive qualitative method that consisted of one instruments namely narrative text. The subjects of the research were the second-grade students of SMP N 2 Tilongkabila Regency in academic year 2019-2020 that consisted of 24 students. The data were collected through oral test which is the students asked to read narrative text loudly and were analyzed qualitatively. The data was collecting by observation, recording test and transcribing, then data analyzed through 4 steps are collecting, identification, classification and explanation. The result of the research showed that the students of SMP N 2 Tilongkabila Regency got some difficulties in pronouncing English consonants sounds. They were face difficulties in almost of English consonants sound that found on the text. Another problmes that students faced in pronoucing English sounds such as make some phonological errors, the replacement of English sounds occurs due to the fact that some of the English sounds do not exist in the Indonesian sounds, and the influence of students mother tongue.
