This research was aimed at improving students speaking English ability at 8 Grade of SMP Negeri 3 Limboto. Speaking is important for us because we can make interaction with others. In teaching speaking there is a media that can help the teacher, for example teaching speaking by describing picture. We can use a picture to increase students' speaking ability because by using the picture they can express their idea with their own word by see the picture. This study used quantitative data by applying pre-experimental design, that consisted pre test and post test. The participants of this study consist of 24 students in VIII.2 class of SMP Negeri 3 Limboto. The research finding showed that students' score has been increased by using describing pictures method, from pre test is around 29,83% it is improved in post test their ability is around 56,17% . It indicated that students made a considerable improvement in some aspect of speaking skills such as pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. It can be concluded by using describing pictures method can improve students speaking English ability it proved by by result of the hyphotesis t_(count )ât_list = 19,13431 â 2,07. By applying describing pictures method in teaching learning process, students are more interested in learning and became creative to express the idea and students have motivation to speak English.
