It is acknowledged the biggest problem that commonly happens to the foreign student while learning English is lacking of vocabulary. Meanwhile, vocabulary is the most influenced aspects in language since it appears in every skill of language. However, students who have been categorized in low degree found the difficulties in their study, consequently the student tend to less participated in class activities. Personal vocabulary notes is believed to be the solution to enrich students' vocabulary because PVN engages student in a cycle to invent their own vocabulary while PVN is frequently suggested as an essential tool for student to use, to organize and to manage their vocabulary learning. Kurzweil (2002) has explained that PVN encourages student to write words in their native language when they do not know how to say the English words. This study is aimed to find out the students' perception in mastering vocabulary by using PVN. Using a qualitative method the data were obtained from semi structure interview (Sugiyono, 2010. p.43). Ten students of class D academic year 2013 English Department have participated in this research. The results indicated that there were positives and negatives perception presented by participants including; vocabulary awareness, learner training, advantages/disadvantages of PVN use, teachers' feedback and students' laziness.
