ABSTRACT RISNAWATI. 321413032 : The Correlation between Studentsâ Motivation and Studentsâ Achievement in Learning English. Skripsi. English Educstion Study Program. The aim of this research was to find out the correlation between studentsâ motivation and studentsâ achievement in learning English at the second grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Suwawa in academic year 2017/2018 whether there is any correlation between studentsâ motivation and their achievement in learning English. The rsearcher used quantitative method in this research and the technique used in this research was a correlation technique. The sample of the data was the second grade students of class B of SMP Negeri 1 Suwawa in academic year 2017/2018. Moreover, the researcher took 22 students as the sample. In collecting the data, this research was distributing questionnaires to the respondent to assess studentsâ motivation. Besides, in assessing studentsâ achievement, the researcher takes studentsâ scores in English subject final test at the first semester.The result of this research shows that there is a positive correlation between studentsâ motivation and studentsâ achievement in learning English. With using r pearson product moment formula it is proved by the rxy= 0,584, and the value of r2= 34,1%. Furthermore, based on testing of significant obtaind that tcount= 4,473,and the ttable in the degree significance 5% = 2,089. The result of tcount bigger than ttable, it is considered that the null hypothesis (H0) in this research is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) which is states that there is correlation between studentsâ motivation and studentsâ achievement in learning English is accepted. So, the result of this research based on table interpretation is a strong enough correlation between studentsâ motivation and studentsâ achievement in learning English. It is proved by the result of the research and testing hypothesis. In conclusion, there is a significant correlation between studentsâ motivation and studentsâ achievement in learning English at the second grade studentsâ of SMP Negeri 1 Suwawa. It means that students with higher motivation will get better achievement than the lower one. In other words, the higher motivated students, the better achievement can b achieved.
