Abstrak

This study aims to analyze the characterization of main character in Edgar Allan Poe The Black Cat Short Story. This study applies qualitative method and psychoanalysis approach. The data of research are personality of the main character of the story. The data are analyzed using Sigmund Freud theory which particularly the id, ego, and superego. The results reveal the main character id is very dominant. One of his personality in Id aspect tends to do what he wants as his pleasures. Keywords: Characterization, The Black Cat, Short Story.
