Abstract Nur Lailla Buhungo. 321 413 046. Factors influencing Students� Low Achievement in English writing subject: A Study Conducted in English Depertment Study Program. Faculty of Letters and Cultures. Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Advisors : Prof. Nonny Basalama, MA, Ph.D and Yusna Bantulu, S.pd, M.A The objective of this research is to know student achievement in writing. This research is a research that uses qualitative methods. The subject of this study was English Department at University of state Gorontalo in the 3rd semester that had low scores in the midterm. The data collection technique used was interviews. Data were analyzed using steps organizing and preparing the data, identify the data, the classified data, interpretation the data. In this research, focuses on external factors and internal factors to be able to find out which students have low achievement in English writing subject. The external factors consist of three parts, namely organizing in campus, teacher, and friend, and internal factors, namely Internal factors such as lack of interested in writing, students have difficulty finding and expressing ideas and Students are lazy to read. The results of this research indicate that the factors that cause students 'low writing achievement are the students' lack of interest in writing and reading, so that students still have difficulty finding and expressing ideas. It could be seen from all of the students mentioned that lack vocabulary and grammar is their problem in writing. This research hopefully can to improve students� comprehension to reach good achievement in learning English. In addition, the result of this research most to be more active in sharing the ideas, and also they know is to provide some benefits such as for the teachers who teach writing subject. Then, for the students, it could give them motivation to learn, make confidence to the study their strengths and weakness in writing skill. Thesuggested that the teachers and students work together in learning activities and find solutions if there students who have difficulty in learning English, especially about English writing. Key words: factors, influencing, achievement in English writing.
