Visualization strategy in reading comprehension demand students to visualize in their mind about something being instructed with the help of their background knowledge. This study observes and analyzes the comprehension of students in grade eight of SMP Negeri 2 Telaga. This strategy applied in order to solve the students��� problem in lack of comprehension in understanding English Reading Skills. To indicate the comprehension of the students, this research applies Djiwandono���s (2008) types of indicators in reading comprehension which are main idea, implicit, inference, reference, explicit, and synonym/antonym.
This study uses the quantitative research with applying the pre-test, treatment, and post-test process as the technique of collecting the data. In validating the data, this research use Pearson���s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Validity. The pre-test and pos-test are the method to prove the development of the students��� comprehension, while treatment is done to see the progress of the student which held in 4 meetings.
The data of the research showing the development of the students as the result of pre-test to post-test increased 3,5 point in main idea, 8 point in implicit, 11,3 point in inference, 13,6 point in reference, 10,6 point in explicit, and 6 point in synonym/antonym. Thus, this result is also proven by the result of the T-test data showing the comparison between the pre-test and post-test where the lowest score in pre-test is 3 and in post-test 11. As the high result in post-test is 19 instead pre-test is only 11.
As conclusion, using visualization to increase students��� comprehension in reading play an important role as it stimulates student to synchronize their background knowledge imagination with something they read.
