The aims of this research is to observe the types of meaning of Muhammad Ali's quotes. This research used a descriptive qualitative method which observing the quotes that have been expressed by Muhammad Ali in his life. In this case, the language is usually delivering an implicit meaning that shares thought, feeling and experience. That implicit meaning are needed to being interpreted for gaining messages. Therefore, analyzing of the meaning will help to get the messages of the quotes. This case will inspire the students in building up their self-motivation. The data are collected by documentation from Brainy Quotes Website. In observing data, the research applied the Leech (1981) theory of types of meaning, it is divided into seven types; Conceptual meaning, Connotative Meaning, Social Meaning, Affective Meaning, Reflected Meaning, Collocative Meaning, and Thematic Meaning, while the technique of analyzing the data it is used the Miles and Huberman (1989) theory, which consist of Data Reduction, Data Display, and Conclusion Drawing/ Verification. The result shows that there are six types of meaning in Muhammad Ali's quotes; Conceptual Meaning, Connotative Meaning, Social Meaning, Affective Meaning, Reflected Meaning, Collocative Meaning which presented in 15 data as have been discussed more detail in this study.
